Sandra's Guide to: Gothenburg

It's time to put together a small guide over Gothenburg (Sweden), where I lived for 12 years before moving to Berlin. I haven't been back there since I moved almost 2 years ago so I can't guarantee that everything is as good as it was back then, but these are some of the places I enjoyed while living there.

Click the links and use a search engine if you need more information.

My favouite season in Gothenburg was Fall, but all seasons have their charm. Make sure to bring good shoes and an umbrella - it rains more in Gothenburg than in London.

ANDRA LÅNGGATANS SKIVHANDEL
Andra Långgatan 33
Sells second hand CD's and vinyl.

BAR CENTRO
Kyrkogatan 31
My number one favourite place to go for coffee.

ÅNGBÅTSCAFÉET, EDUARD MELIN
Klippan
My friends and I used to go there every Sunday afternoon to have coffee and look at all the old people.

BENGANS CAFÈ & SKIVBUTIK
Stigbergstorget 1
Record store and nice café. Great to sit outside in the summer and look at people passing by.

CANTON HOUSE
Olivedalsgatan 12
Great great Chinese food.

CIGARREN
Järntorget 6
Coffee & Cigars, great for sitting outdoors and look at people.

DOPPIO
Linnégatan 7
This used to be my everyday café when I lived in Gothenburg. Great great coffee, super sweet staff.

EFESSOS
Karl Johansgatan 60
My favourite Greek restaurant.

EGG & MILK
Övre Husargatan 23
American brunch place.

EMMAUS
Linnégatan 9
Second hand shop (clothes) with inspiring window displays.

FABRIKEN
Ekedalsgatan 16
Second hand shop.

BOULANGERIE DUCOIN
Koopmansgatan 3
Best bakery in town, their semla is to die for.

HAGA
Haga Nygata
Haga is a great area in the middle of the city with wooden houses, antique stores, cozy cafés. Don't miss it!

HAGABADET
Södra Allégatan 3
Amazing place to go for a swim which I used to do a lot. They serve breakfast afterwards, which I really recommend.

HAGABION
Linnégatan 12
A cinema with a great bar/café/restaurant. Used to be one of my absolute favourites in Gothenburg. The food is great and quite affordable. Also, see Kino below.

HEAVEN 23
Mässans Gata 24
Heaven 23 is located at the top of the hotel Gothia Towers, they serve their famous shrimp sandwhich which is good, but the view is the best.

INDISKA
Kungsgatan 37
Although I hardly ever bought anything there, I loved to visit Indiska - the place is gorgeous.

KINO
Linnégatan 12
Right below Hagabion is Kino, a bar which also serves food (they share restaurant with Hagabion). Super great!

KLIPPAN
Klippan
Where the river meets the sea, amazing place to see water.

KORVKIOSK
Mariaplan
This sausage stand was part of my daily life in Gothenburg, since I lived pretty close to it. Nice ladies serve nice sausages and burgers.

LE PAIN FRANCAIS
Övre Husargatan 26
A place I went for breakfast at pretty often.

LE PETIT CAFÉ
Haga Nygata 2
A cute café with a huge selection of sweets to go with your fika.

LISEBERG
The big amusement park in the city, click link for more info.

MAHARANI
Första Långgatan 4
Good Indian food.

KAFÉ MARMELAD
Mariagatan 17
The best coffee in Majorna (the neighbourhood where I used to live).

NYGÅRDSANNA
Vallgatan 21
Great clothes.

NYTT IGEN
Mariagatan 13
Good second hand shop.

RED LION
Mariagatan 11a
Great pub and restaurant. This is the place where Johan and I made our biggest decisions together, like being together and also where we threw our wedding party.

RÖDA STEN
Röda Sten 1
A great place for art, beer and sometimes party.

SINTRA
Landsvägsgatan 5
Great place for ceramics.

SLOTTSSKOGEN
The biggest park in Gothenburg, you can see mooses and lots of other animals there, go for a run, have a picnic, have coffee etc. It's very beautiful.

STRIKK
Vallgatan 23
The best yarn shop!

SYSTEMBOLAGET
Since you can't buy alcohol in regular stores in Sweden you have to look up your closest Systembolaget. They have a great selection of beverages, but beware - it's closed on Sundays.

WAY OUT WEST
A great great music festival which takes place in August every year (in Slottsskogen).

YAMA
Basargatan 10
Best sushi in town.

Some other great places which I don't have any photos of:

BAR ITALIA
Prinsgatan 7
Great place for coffee.

RUM FÖR PAPPER
Vallgatan 19
The best store for paper, so beautiful and the staff is great.
